These were the best-selling electric cars in China last month

Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV

The small Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV continues to dominate electric car sales in China. It’s impressive that this electric car remains so popular now that better alternatives are available.

  5. Aion S: 6.752

One of the best alternatives to the Wuling Hong Guang MINI EV currently available is the Changan Benben E-Star, that recently became even cheaper with the introduction of the National Edition.

As for Tesla, considering that it sells much more expensive electric cars, its sales figures are impressive. Furthermore, if the introduction of a cheaper Tesla Model Y version with a LFP battery gets confirmed as expected, sales will likely skyrocket.

My interest in electric transportation is mostly political. I’m tired of coups and wars for oil. My expectation is that the adoption of electric transportation will be a factor for peace and democracy all over the world.

I expected much better from the BYD Han EV. BYD really needs to increase the production of Blade batteries.

Are these 29k vehicles sold per month?
Is this a big number in China comparing to combustion cars sales?
Can we get a chart that helps us have a perspective of growth of sales over time?

    • Frederico Matias says:

      Yes per month…

The estimated 2021 Total sales in China for EV’s are 2.2/2,4 Million.

New EV sales surged 177% Y-o-Y in May with 185,000 vehicles sold (may)

Total cars sold in China in May 2,13 Million (Jesus Christ…this is a lot of Cars)… so for now, still below 10% but NEV cars are moving momentum heavilly (may NEV growth +159% vs total cars -3,1%)

Great news, overall vehicle sales tumbled, but the plugins skyrocketed. Good show from Wuling and Tesla (Model Y/3).
Changan Benben seems to be rising start like Wuling, hope the Letin Mango which has similar size, price as Benben will also see rising sales.

Now we have to ask whether the sales of ICE is stalling, is that what led to overall sales decline.
