Great Wall Motor’s Taizhou Smart Factory has started production and the first model to come out of the production lines was the ORA Haomao (Good Cat).

This new factory with an average automation rate of 79 % and an annual production capacity of 100.000 units will focus mainly on electric cars.



Great Wall Motor’s Taizhou Smart Factory was officially completed and put into production, with a total investment of 8 billion yuan and an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles;

The Taizhou project is composed of Taizhou Smart Vehicle Factory and Taizhou Automobile Technology Industrial Park, and is the strategic core of Great Wall Motors in the East China market;

Euler Haomao, the first mass-produced model, will help Great Wall Motors accelerate its development of the new energy market;

After the Taizhou Smart Factory is put into operation, Great Wall Motors will form a three-in-one production layout in North China, East China and Southwest China.

After the Taizhou Smart Factory of Great Wall Motors is put into production, it will mainly produce new energy vehicles and other products with core competitiveness.

The first vehicle to be mass-produced is the Euler Haomao. As the first new generation model based on the concept of “retro-futurism”, ORA Good Cat is built on a pure electric module that can grow under the lemon architecture and coffee intelligence, with ORA Cabin, ORA Pilot, ORA Care, ORA Active, ORA Retro The five core advantages of futurism will bring consumers excellent driving pleasure, intelligent driving experience and comprehensive safety protection, and will help Great Wall Motor to further develop the new energy market.


Focusing production on the ORA Haomao (Good Cat) is definitely a smart decision, because this electric car is great and as expected the demand is extremely high.

The best thing about the stylish ORA Haomao (Good Cat) is that it’s available with two battery options. A more expensive NCM battery that enables a longer NEDC range (501 km) and a cobalt-free LFP battery that has a shorter range (401 km) but is more affordable.

There’s some conflicting information in MIIT’s documents. The general documents about the car show different weight and energy density figures from what we have in the documents specifically about the batteries as you can see below.

  • Range: 401 km

Anyway, currently the ORA Good Cat is only sold in its domestic market China with a starting price of 103.900 yuan (13.200 euros) for the 401 km range version and 133.900 yuan (17.017 euros) for the 501 km version.

Next year ORA electric cars might get an upgrade to LNMO battery cells from SVOLT, since this battery cell maker belongs to the same parent company GWM (Great Wall Motors).

In 2018 when GWM created the sub-brand ORA for affordable electric cars, it expected that by 2020 its first electric cars would arrive in Europe. Nowadays the goal of reaching Europe already this year seems unachievable, but ORA is growing steadily and an arrival in 2021 is definitely possible.

If the ORA Haomao arrives in Europe next year for around 20.000 euros with a cobalt-free LNMO battery and a WLTP range of at least 300 km it’ll be disruptive.

Good news. At height of 1.596 mm, its a crossover.
Well priced, decent size, 401 km (NEDC) is 300 km WLTP.

Combo of LFP  & NCM is great. Gone were the days when petrol and diesel engines were offered as choices. Future will be only 2 or 3 different battery chemistries.

black cat, white cat, good cat, all are nice cats, but they are not big enough to catch the snakes (python-petrol & anaconda-diesel). hope they increase the size of plant or build many plants in different cities/countries to sell more.
i hope this model hits the market in 2021-01.

Nice looks, nice hardware. After the Dacia Spring, definitely at 20.000€ there won´t be another option coming from Europe until 2025 (Clio Zoe; Renault CMF-B-EV, and ID1; MEB Entry) given the timelines we already know from legacy automakers. They will just try to sell as many HEV and PHEV as they can in the next five years in that price segment. This has been a battle lost here in Europe while in China, my understanding is that more automakers are skipping development of hybrids in favor of pure BEV.

Hope that those new chinese cars will stop the fool ideas of EU manufacturers releasing any new vehicle with lower range than 200 miles / 320km WLTP. This vehicle seems to be aimend for B segment and I found funny how VW talks about new MEB lite platform for B segment with max 45 kWh battery, where all cars on the market in this segment already have +50 kWh batteries.
