In Europe the closest we have to this electric car are the French electric quadricycles from AixamΒ that have a maximum speed of 45 km/h and a starting price of 14.899 euros…

My interest in electric transportation is mostly political. I’m tired of coups and wars for oil. My expectation is that the adoption of electric transportation will be a factor for peace and democracy all over the world.

“Last month Wuling sold 20.150 units of the super-affordable Hong Guang MINI EV and more than doubled its sales figures.” I thought they sold over 15,000 units in September.

Hi Tyler, I think you mean August, September was last month with 20.150 units sold.

I also thought that more than 15.000 units were sold in August as first mentioned in a Moneyball’s tweet.

But it seems that it was “only” 9.150 units.

Please don’t make mini in all caps. That means the brand MINI owned by BMW instead.

Great to see these doing so well, and that they are powered by LFP. The 100 km/h top speed is also interesting – highway capable in principle.
I wonder if a version could be made for Europe (may need a few changes for crashworthiness, unless categorized as quadricycle).

It doesn’t even have airbags. However, as a quadricycle it would be much better than the Renault Twizy.

I wonder if the Baojun E300 Plus could pass Euro NCAP crash tests.

I will assume the battery pack is not heated or cooled.

It seems to at least have some kind of pre-heating.

“The model is equipped with the BMS intelligent battery management system, as well as low-temperature pre-heating technology and battery insulation. It has received an advanced IP68 waterproof and dustproof rating and been put through 16 rigorous safety tests. The battery’s functions can be remotely monitored via a smartphone app.”

20.150 sales is fantastic. adding the sales upto august (17.546) makes it 37.706. if they sell at the same level in the next 3 months, it will come to 97.706. a little stretch will make it past 100.000 becoming only the 2nd model to hit 100.000 / year milestone after tesla model 3.

2+2 car is ideal for many singles, newly weds, those with small children, retired households with just 2 members or for anyone as a 2nd car. in japan, 40% of vehicles sold are minicars with just 660 cc engine. i guess many more automakers consider selling small 2+2 cars or 4 seater cars with 5 doors for maximum functionality.

world will have a huge # of aging population who just need a car like wuling miniev which cover most of their trips and for occasional long distance drives, they can always rent a car. time for all automakers to take note of this. luckily baojun and byd are also selling such small cars.

way to go.

these minievs are out there to challenge the notion that a car should
seat 5 passengers
have 150 km/h speed
go 500 km per refuel/recharge
weigh 1,5 tons.

4 models (wuling miniev, baojun e-series, great wall ora 41, chery eq) are in top-10 in ytd sales in china. with this 20.150 salesm most likely wuling miniev will end up in #2 in sep ytd. if these vehicles are introduced in europe/usa at such low price, definitely they will cause a flutter.

In Europe you’ll have the AMI at around 8KEUR…. however with very low range and only carrying 2 persons… better than nothing though…
