PEUGEOT e-208 official specs

Zero-emission PEUGEOT e-208 GT

Just before this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, PEUGEOT e-208 has its official specs announced.

The PEUGEOT e-208 and its cousin Opel e-Corsa are just two of several much-awaited electric superminis coming to Europe this year. They’ll be direct alternatives to other electric superminis such as Renault ZOE 2.0 and Volkswagen ID 3 (Neo).

Let’s see the highlights:

  • 100 kW (136 bhp) electric motor developing 260 Nm of torque
  • 0 to 100 km/h in 8,1 seconds in Sport Mode
  • 50 kWh battery is guaranteed for 8 years or 160.000 km (100.000 miles) for 70 % of its charge capacity
  • The battery is linked to the passenger compartment cooling system, fluid-cooled temperature control enables fast recharging, optimised range and increased life-span
  • 340 km (211 miles) range in WLTP and 450 km (280 miles) in NEDC
  • 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger
  • 100 kW fast charging via CCS allows to charge the battery from 0 to 80 % in 30 minutes
  • Heat pump
  • Heated seats (according to version)
  • Configurable head-up display
  • Capacitive 7” or 10″ HD colour touchscreen
  • 3D digital instrument panel
  • MyPeugeot app
  • Full LED 3-claw headlight signature (according to version)

“Interior and boot-space are identical to the ICE version. The batteries, which take up a volume of 220L, are distributed under the floor pan in new PEUGEOT 208.”

All-new PEUGEOT 208 and e-208 interiors

David Peel, Managing Director of PEUGEOT UK said:

“We are all so excited at PEUGEOT to be building towards our goal of a full electric range by 2023, and the all-new PEUGEOT e-208 is a great step in cementing PEUGEOT’s foothold in the ever-growing EV market.”

Finally:

“The PEUGEOT e-208 will be unveiled at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show, with an online reservation site opening at the end of March, and opening for orders late summer 2019.”

Anyway, the PEUGEOT e-208 seems to be a great electric supermini, with 250-300 km of realistic range, 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger and capable of 100 kW DC fast charging via CCS. However, I think that an optional additional 11 kW on-board charger in parallel to reach 22 kW via AC would make it even better.

What do you think about the PEUGEOT e-208? How well do you think it’ll sell compared to other alternatives such as the Renault ZOE 2.0 and the Volkswagen ID 3 (Neo)?

Pedro Lima

My interest in electric transportation is mostly political. I’m tired of coups and wars for oil. My expectation is that the adoption of electric transportation will be a factor for peace and democracy all over the world.

22kw on board charger, I think should be a plus.
    Welcome new e 208 Peugeot!

  2. RNMentropy says:

Very nice proposition but without price it’s irrelevant.

  3. EVEntusiast says:

I wonder if the battery has a liquid TMS. If not, as with the new Leaf, battery degradation will be an issue.

    • Pedro Lima says:

“The battery is linked to the passenger compartment cooling system, fluid-cooled temperature control enables fast recharging, optimised range and increased life-span”.

    • Davidradzieta says:

No issue for the new Leafs with the million mile batteries.

  4. Rafael says:

  5. woots says:

Peugeots used to stand out from others because they had great suspension. Great handling and road feel, but still comfortable. They need to concentrate on this to make their cars stand out in the EV era.

  6. James says:

Is this the first EV with liquid cooling without a skateboard design?
Cell volumetric density has improved so much you can fit 50kWh under the seats and in fuel tank space, compare and contrast with the e-Golf

    • Pedro Lima says:

      The Smart ForTwo/ForFour ED/EQ have liquid-cooled batteries.

The volumetric energy density of the e-208 battery is quite impressive.
However, the VW e-Golf could already have a 48 kWh battery, but Volkswagen is still using 37 Ah PHEV2 cells from Samsung SDI in the e-Golf when the 50 Ah version is already available. Since the Volkswagen ID 3 (Neo) will replace the e-Golf, it seems that the Skoda e-Citigo and Volkswagen e-up 2.0 will be the first models to get the 50 Ah cells from Samsung SDI.

      • Denis says:

You are right, maybe they didn’t find any simple solution to actively cooling the batterie pack since the car was not designed for being an EV. I think for 50 Ah PHEV2 cells the temperature sollicitation in the battery pack should be high and can cause damage on the system if they are not well managed by a cooling system.

  7. Jonas Jovial says:

    Another great vapourware release 😤

  8. p-run says:

ID 3 (Neo) is not supermini. It is C-segment car like Golf…

    • Pedro Lima says:

You might be right, but to me it looks to have about the same size of a ZOE.

“The output of the concept’s motor was claimed to be 125kW (170PS) and the vehicle was about the same size as a Polo, but with a wheelbase (2,740mm) almost on a par with a Passat. The I.D. was 4,100 mm long and, thus, 155 mm shorter than a Golf.”

For example the Renault ZOE’s length is 4.084 mm, just 1,6 cm shorter than the Neo. Unless VW changed the dimensions for the production version.

  9. Erik says:

I read somewhere else that the battery cells are from a Chinese manufacturer.

  10. Walter says:

    According to the above mentioned:

    – 50 kWh battery
    – guaranteed for 8 years or 160.000 km (100.000 miles) for 70 % of its charge capacity
    – battery is linked to the passenger compartment cooling system, fluid-cooled temperature control enables fast recharging, optimised range and increased life-span
    – 340 km (miles) range in WLTP and 450 km (280 miles) in NEDC
    – 11 kW 3-phase on-board charger
    – 100 kW fast charging via CCS
    – Heat pump
    – Heated seats

I’d say Peugeot did there homework !!
Looking forward to a great looking car with uptodate technics!

  11. Georgi Georgiev says:

    Price?

    • Pedro Lima says:

Price and availability are still unknown.

I think that we’ll have more information at Geneva International Motor Show 2019, which starts next week.

  12. Freddy says:

Pricing is really the most important thing to know now as the specs seem to me like very nice… i.e. batery with over 40kw, liquid thermal management, decent power (in front wheel drive you really dont need that much power, unless really needed it at higher speeds.

Only draw may be really the price and maximum speed (but we also know that at high speeds – Motorway electric cars batteries simply disapear (except Tesla and hyundai/kia for now)…

  13. Lars says:

Nice specs and nice design, but we are missing som important numbers, the price and the produktion numbers. Both numbers are important to show how serious PSA is about selling the e-208.

  14. Manuel Oliveira says:

Look man! I only need to know one thing – how much? Then, take my money already!

  15. Trevor says:

You stated that dependant on version there will be having heated seats. Is this just on the GT version or the GT Lines as well? My local dealer says that none of them will have heated seats

    Trevor

  16. Pawan Tuladhar says:

What is the ground clearance of the e208?

  17. Robin says:

Hello .we live off grid ,how many watts does it draw to recharge ?

  18. Minimum charging current is 6A. You could make the choice to charge monophase, so that would mean for 230V system 1380W. Obviously, that would take hours and hours to fully charge the car.

  19. very informative articles or reviews at this time.

  20. This article changed my perspective. Thank you!
