Hyundai is already exporting the Kona Electric

Last month, Hyundai produced more units of the Kona Electric for exportation than for its own domestic market.

Let’s see the production numbers for June.

Domestic market (South Korea)

  • Hyundai IONIQ HEV: 205
  • Hyundai IONIQ PHEV: 7
  • Hyundai IONIQ Electric: 534

  • Hyundai Kona Electric: 1.076
  • Hyundai Kona (gas): 2.938

Exportation market

  • Hyundai IONIQ HEV: 1.044
  • Hyundai IONIQ PHEV: 132
  • Hyundai IONIQ Electric: 1.273

  • Hyundai Kona Electric: 1.120
  • Hyundai Kona (gas): 17.886

Regarding the IONIQ, for the first time Hyundai exported more units of the electric version than the hybrid. Nonetheless, what’s more interesting is that Hyundai is already producing more Kona Electric units for exportation than for its domestic market.

As expected, most of those units produced last month will go to Norway.

Anyway, those production figures are still laughable, especially since last month Hyundai exported 17.886 units of the gas-burning Kona.

  1. Yeah, we wait to see a serious increase in those numbers – to see just how serious Hyundai is

  2. BEVs are taking over based on the trends observed in countries that take the need for sustainable energy production and consumption seriously. We all need to.

  3. My dealer gets end of august the kona ev. My order is pushed back to jan 2019 instead of dec 2018

  4. It would be nice if they would produce as many as there is demand for. Here in Denmark there is still a six to nine month waiting time for an Ioniq Electric and the few that are available are offered way above list price.

    1. Woah, this is much higher than the 2018 Leaf, isn’t it? If so, there’s a really good chance the e-plus Leaf will be able to really undercut the Kona in terms of price.

      1. The Leaf 40Kwh in Portugal has a base price of 34.400€, so we are talking almost 10k less, but is has a real range of just 250 km. Some would by Kona for the range or because is a SUV, but i think Hyunday will not produce to many (it wiil be just like Ioniq)

  5. What does mean “kona” in portugal language, tell us? 🙂 For example, kuga (Ford Kuga) in slovenian language means infection disease (plague),but Ford did not change name for slovenian market :))

    1. To be correct, the word is “cona”, but the sound is the same. It’s a slang referring to the female genitals 😉

    2. At least you never had to worry about traffic. I can see people shouting- Quick, get out of the way the plague is coming
