“ZOE e-Sport Concept

The ZOE e-Sport Concept is the fully electric concept car that embodies Renault’s commitment to the idea that electric cars can be fun and fast. The sporting credentials of the ZOE e-Sport Concept extend beyond the car’s styling and the same striking blue livery as the Renault e.dams team’s front-running Formula E single-seaters. The bodywork of the ZOE e-Sport Concept is made entirely from lightweight carbon fibre, which helps to ensure outstanding acceleration from standstill to 100kph in just 3.2 seconds. The car tips the scales at a mere 1,400 kilograms, including 450 kilograms of batteries.”


While I’m disappointed with Renault not introducing a new EV to the ZE line, this sports concept suggests that the next generation ZOE should get a more powerful electric motor.


Since Renault’s lecture in 2015 we knew that the ZOE will get a bigger battery capacity in 2020, which will push the NEDC range from 400 to 600 km. However, a facelift is expected to happen before the next battery upgrade. In 2018 the ZOE is expected to finally get DC fast charging capability with a CCS connector and some kind of autonomous driving.

  3. Makes a lot of sense as Renault have hot RS Rally Sport versions of the Clio and and Megane models so why not the Zoe?

    1. Yes it would make sense. This concept is a lot more realistic than the Renault TREZOR Sports Concept.

      However, what I think that Renault is saying is that the next generation ZOE will be faster and more fun to drive.

  4. This is a concept. A car to please the media and the crowd.

    We can do some maths however:
    450 kg of batteries.
    Current Zoe:
    290 kg for 24 kWh, 305 kg for 41 kWh.
    So, there we have it: a 60 kWh battery. 🙂 Expected in some next-gen Leaf and Zoe.
    For comparison: Bolt’s 60 kWh battery with LG Chem cells is 435 kg.
    “push the NEDC range from 400 to 600 km.” => yes this matches the factor 1.5 improvement.

    Interesting: the use of CFRP for the Zoe body. Is it gonna make it to series production? I guess not, but would have guessed so for BMW i3 as well, and BMW did.

    What I’m worried about (3,2 s for 0-100 km/h): a new war on acceleration figures for electric city cars. And then pedestrian detection and automated braking as a antidote. This wont bring us an overall improvement. Instead it would make cities a much more dangerous place.

    Series Zoe will be nowhere near this. If they match Bolt’s 6,5 seconds it is more than enough for a quiet car. Remember when officials wanted a BEV artificial sound? Here’s why.

  5. Ralph k: a Zoe is much more than a city car! If your example included the Smart EV upping it’s acceleration like this concept, you would be correct.
