Kia Niro is the equivalent to Hyundai’s IONIQ and will share a lot of components since Kia and Hyundai are sister companies.
Both were designed as hybrid cars, with plug-in versions. While IONIQ is bound to have hybrid, plug-in hybrid and fully electric versions, Kia Niro doesn’t have the fully electric version confirmed yet, only hybrid and plug-in hybrid.
At the moment an EV version of the Niro is only an hypothesis, but there is a strong chance to become reality.
For now we have to content with Kia and Hyundai bet on PHEVs, particularly on the Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid and the soon to be released Kia Optima Plug-In Hybrid.
If Hyundai IONIQ EV version proves its success, Kia Niro EV has bigger chances to become real. It amazes me why Toyota doesn’t do the same and make an EV version of Prius.
