BYD e6 is arriving at slow pace to Europe, the latest registered units are probably demonstration units preparing the official launch that will happen in few months.
The official sales will start at March 2016 in South Korea and Europe. Then the BYD e6 will no longer be an electric car just for taxis and will be bought also for personal use.
Recently BYD e6 had its 60 kWh battery boosted to 82 kWh, but its official electric range is only 400 km. It’s an inefficient electric car since it weighs 2.420 kg. It’s heavier than a Tesla Model S and not as slick. Its 90 kW motor should also be upgraded to support such heavy car. As it is now the BYD e6 is not only inefficient but also sluggish for European taste. BYD promised to improve it for Europe, let’s see what they’ll do.
If not at the same time, later the BYD e6 should have the company of BYD Qin and BYD Tang plugin hybrids.
Even if I don’t think BYD e6 is a great electric car, the more the merrier.
