More than the improved charging time and motor torque, it’s the cell’s energy density increase that I like more. I don’t know if the improved cells are still NMC cells made by Farasis Energy. But I’ll try to find out.
Now you can go as far as 317 km in the city with the upgraded battery model.
“New cell chemistry within the Z-Force® power pack stores more energy and operates more efficiently, resulting in a system that boasts the highest energy density in the electric vehicle industry. The power pack requires no routine maintenance and is backed by a 5-year/160.000 kilometer warranty.”
In my opinion what is missing is DC quick charging capability with CCS (Combined Charging System).
Having a faster charger inside a tight place like a motorcycle isn’t a very good idea. It will add more heat near the battery and increase its degradation. The best method for faster charging is an external DC charger. Just put a CCS plug in it. It’s also cheaper and easier job than adding a bigger charger inside a motorcycle.
Unfortunately the starting price for the 2016 Zero S is 12.280 €. That’s a lot of money for a motorcycle.
All in all this is very good news, Zero Motorcycles keeps improving their products every year.
